DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES : The Wound Care Nurse will function in the role of a Wound Care Consultant to establish standards of care and clinical competencies to ! meet patient needs, and training programs to ensure clinical expertise. The Wound Care Nurse is proficient in the care of a patient population utilizing effective managerial skills. The person in this position will act as a professional role model for other members of the nursing team. The successful candidate will work closely with various patient care teams, as well as physicians. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES :
Demonstrates tack, courtesy and a positive attitude in communication and interaction with other employees, visitors, physicians and the public. At all times present the department and hospital in a positive manner.
Serves as a role model and leader for the professional development of peers, colleagues, and other individuals/groups involved in Wound Care education and care.
Serves as a resource and consultant to patients, physicians and nursing staff in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients with wounds, ostomies, incontinence, ! and actual or potential skin breakdown.
Provides consultat! ion to all clinical areas for wounds, ostomies, incontinence, and actual or potential skin breakdown according to hospital policies and protocols and Wound Care standards. 5. Takes a leadership role in development and monitoring standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery of patients with wounds, ostomies, incontinence, and actual or potential skin breakdown in conjunction with the Wound Care Team. Incorporates data and information to continuously improve care and practice to enhance clinical outcomes. 6. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor. Leadership skills demonstrated in decision making and problem solving. 7. Makes recommendations to Case Management regarding specialty beds and collaborates with the case management team to ensure efficient utilization of resources. 8. Through training and support, empowers all clinical staff to effectively assess wounds, recommend appropriate protocols, and! advocates with physicians. 9. Provides basic wound care training and orientation to all new nursing and therapy staff on hire; provides ongoing in-services and training related to wound care, ostomies and incontinence, to include basic orientation to wound care program. 10. Makes recommendations to the physician for changes to wound care orders, and provides evidence based research support as needed. 11. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others. Has respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines. Uses an integrated approach toward patient outcomes.
