We are seeking energetic, organized individuals to assist doctors with medical charting at an Emergency Department in Columbus, MS. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced clinical environment. This is a wonderful entry-level position for medical/nursing students or anyone looking to propel their career in healthcare.Job SummaryScribes work alongside physicians and document the medical encounter into the patients medical chart as the physician evaluates the patient. Scribes also document procedures and treatments performed by other healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.The scribe is responsible for: Documenting the patients history of present illness (HPI). Reviewing the patients past medical history, as well as recording the physicians consultations with family members and/or other physicians to cover family and social history. Collect! ing data pertinent to the Review of Systems, following the tem! plate of questions Transcribing all ancillary test results and the physicians interpretation of the results, including any lab tests, imaging tests, ECGs and ABGs. Reviewing prior labs, ECG and radiographic studies for comparison. Alerting the physician when the chart is under-documented. Assisting with medication reconciliation documentation. Noting all processes related to the Medical Decision Making process. Appropriately capturing all data associated with the physician-patient interaction, and following the procedures set forth in the electronic medical record, as well as by HIPAA and Joint Commission guidelines.Expectations: Professional Service: Provides the highest quality service in job performance. Respect: Displays outstanding customer service skills. Attendance: Reports to work each regularly scheduled workday. Properly records hours worked in the appropriate binder or uses the designated phone or computer system to clock in and out. Punctuality: Is ready for wor! k at precise starting time and continues working until scheduled departure time. Returns on time from all meal periods. Appearance: Projects a professional image, follows the hospital dress code policy and/or department requirements. Wears hospital ID badge at all times on duty. Confidentiality: Protects sensitive information (per HIPAA guidelines) including, but not limited to, patient records, charts, hospital documents and employee information without exception. Annual Requirements: Completes annual requirements (PPD/Health requirements, Ethics/HIPPA Training, Assigned competencies) on time.
Must be able to work a minimum of 2 shifts per week and 8 shifts per month.Shifts are available from: 6 am- 6 pm, 11 am - 11 pm Monday-Friday.Preferred Qualifications: Type 45+ WPM Currently pursuing a degree in the healthcare fieldPhysical Requirements: Must have necessary visual and auditory acuity for responsibilities listed. Must be able to stand for long periods of time rang! ing from 4-12 hours. Must be capable of frequently lifting and carrying! a mobile workstation.Training Requirements: Each scribe receives a minimum of 60 hours of training. Scribe training begins after each scribe completes the Human Resources clearance process. Training includes classroom lectures, computer lab, online home study, audio/video case simulations, HIPAA and finally bedside training. EMSS requires each scribe to pass daily tests after each classroom training session in order to move on to bedside training. The bedside training stage consists of one-on-one tutorials with experienced EMSS trainers. Each scribe receives an evaluation after each bedside training session. After completion of both classroom and bedside training, each scribe must pass a final exam with to be certified and progress to solo shifts.
