Primarily 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Schedule flexible to meet the needs of the veteran and the VA.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Telemedicine (1 position)

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/ Addictive Disorder Treatment Program (1 position)

Duties Include:
The psychiatri! c-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) has had a great impact in de! livering primary mental health care to such a vulnerable population. The following is an overview of the duties of the mental health nurse practitioners perform.

·

Perform a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation as needed, within an emphasis on mental health history - including age specific assessments. The assessment included evaluation of mental status, current and past history of violence, suicidal or self-harm behavior, substance use, level of functioning, health behaviors, trauma, sexual behaviors and social and developmental history.

·

Contributes to Mental Health Performance Measures that apply to PNPÂ's assigned work areas.

·

Provide direct individual and group mental health care to the patients followed in Mental Health or referred from the other primary or specialty clinics.

·

This includes the treatment and management of acute and chronic psychiatric disorders and mental health problems.
·

Collaborates as a member of the interdisciplinary mental health team, working interdependently with other health care providers in response to the health care need of such a vulnerable population.

·

Provide consultation to health care providers and others to enhance quality and cost-effective services for the veteran.

·

Assist the case-mangers with medication management and differential diagnosis when consulted. The management includes the prescribing, monitoring and evaluating of psychotropic and related medications based on clinical indicators of the patientÂ's status, including the results of diagnostic and lab test as appropriate.

·

Provide follow-up care for the veterans, which sometimes include lengthy telephone

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree ! from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and c! urrent certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurse Association or another nationally recognized certifying body.

The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship

English language proficiency (written and spoken)

Physical standards - All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment may be required.

Registration - Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. The RN must maintain a current, full active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with the VA.

A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a pr! ogram accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurse Association or another nationally recognized certifying body.

The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.

Educational requirements can be met as follows: Master's degree from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed: a) The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC); or b) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession! of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration, will meet the! requirement of graduation from an accredited

school of professional nursing: a) from an accredited university with an endorsement in Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

Preferred experience requirements:
At a minimum, applicants should possess experience as an RN that is determined to be sustained and consistently at or above an acceptable level of quality. This may include experience as a Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) provided that candidate was utilized as a professional nurse and passed the State licensing (board) examination on the first attempt, and experience as Nurse Technician Pending Graduation provided the candidate possessed an active, current registration to practice nursing in a State and was utilized as a professional nurse. Professional nursing experience should be documented on the Application for Employment - Nurse and Nurse Anesthetists (VA Form 10-2850a).
